Vista installation question
If I upgrade to Vista, will I still be able to watch these shows or will the protection prevent them from playing. Also, what about if I back these files up to a data DVD, then do a full Vista install, (not just an upgrade). Could I then load files back to hard drive and still be able to watch them with Vista Media

Also, I ran the upgrade rather than a clean install partly to save time, and partly to see how well it works, so I can advise clients. Personally, I had no inclination one way or the other with regards to Vista (I am a Mac person after all) and was honestly interested in the question and answer.

If it (the desktop) was originally preinstalled with XP (an OEM version), then you cannot move it to other hardware. Incidentally, laptops often use proprietary hardware.

BTW, if Microsoft is listening, this is a pretty stupid way to handle MS Partners. Thanks! Install clean but don't enter the key and don't register. Then upgrade install. Though I've found a Vista install is about twenty minutes slower than XP, so a clean XP followed by a Vista upgrade may well be quicker.
